It was my chemistry teacher

Said, kitchen is a laboratory

Exploring and contemplating

I stood there only to see

A dusted and darkened,

Coughing and huffing,

Self starting machine that

Revive at the crack of dawn,

Producing sodium chloride solution

There everyday…

~ Yet another attempt, originally written two months ago, a rough translation of a Malayalam poem that secured first prize in some versification contest, for which the topic was ‘Mother’. Attaching the original poem below. 


കെമിസ്ട്രി സാറാണ് പറഞ്ഞത്

അടുക്കള ഒരു ലാബാണെന്ന്

പരീക്ഷിച്ച് നിരീക്ഷിച്ച് 

നിന്നപ്പോളാണ് കണ്ടത്


പുകഞ്ഞു പുകഞ്ഞ് 

തനിയെ സ്റ്റാർട്ടാകുന്ന 

കരിപുരണ്ട കേടുവന്ന

ഒരു മിഷ്യൻ അവിടെയെന്നും

സോഡിയം ക്ലോറൈഡ് ലായനി

ഉൽപാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെന്ന് …
